Where to start my very first life coaching article?
Perfectionism, naturally.
Perfectionism was standing over my shoulder, holding my hands back from writing my first blog post.
Many of us paralyze ourselves by hanging out with Perfectionism on the regular.
It’s the little voice whispering in our ear that says:
“There must be a ‘right’ way to do this.”
“It has to be perfect, or it’s not good enough.”
“Until it's complete, you can't share it with anyone.”
“It has to be the best, or it’s not worth the effort.”
The thing is, Perfectionism is like a moving goal post, getting further out of reach as you approach it.
There’s rarely a ‘right’ way to do something.
‘Done' means whatever you make it.
If you make “right” mean a grand, polished ideal that's always out of reach, it will be out of reach.
If you make “right” mean “good enough,” you’re a lot more likely to make progress.

Here are some questions to ask yourself to see if perfectionism is why you’re not getting the results you really want in your life:
Are you procrastinating because you're waiting for the right moment, the right words, the right conversation, the right ‘something’?
Do you go back and forth over doing something because you think it has to be a certain way?
Are you simply never starting because the idea is so big in your head that it seems impossible to even begin?
If you answered yes to any of these questions (or all of them, no judgment here), Perfectionism has definitely infected you.
But Perfectionism doesn’t know you have a secret weapon.
The cure for a bad case of Perfectionism is to change your mind.
Our thoughts are our most powerful tool. Changing them means your feelings and actions will naturally follow so you get better results.
The right thoughts make taking action easy.

Try one of these thoughts, and see if it helps fight Perfectionism:
It's okay for me to start right now, exactly as I am.
Whatever I choose to do is enough.
Someone needs this today, even if it's not perfect.
*I* need this today, even if it’s not perfect.
By sharing my voice, gifts, ideas, I help myself AND I help others.
What if one, tiny step is all it takes to finally make this happen?
Once you have your new, empowered thought, action becomes simple.
I’m giving you permission, because I had to give it to myself to write this.
If I can do it, you can too.
It only takes one simple mindshift to wave a magic wand and banish Perfectionism so you can actually get shit done.
Find your next helpful, powerful thought my friend, and you’ll win the battle against Perfectionism.
