How to Get Out of Overwhelm

Hey, Highly Sensitive Person -

You wanna know the number one thing I hear most often from other Highly Sensitive People (HSPs) like you?

"I wish I knew how to just be in the world."

Seriously, it's shocking to me how many HSPs say this who have never met each other, never interacted, but say the same thing to me in our conversations.

Upon some curious questioning from me about what exactly they mean by this open-ended statement, the general consensus is that HSPs want to:

  • Connect with others in deep and authentic ways without feeling judged or excluded.

  • Be able to let things roll off of them easily -  which can feel difficult with our highly sensitive nervous systems and minds.

  • Feel like they're part of the ebb and flow of the world without being completely overstimulated by the noise, sights, and sounds of a busy planet.

And the number one thing getting in the way of just being in the world is feeling overwhelmed and exhausted by the go-go-go most people seem to subscribe to.

When you're feeling overwhelmed and exhausted, you tend to hide out from the world and act in ways that you regret later.

You play small and don't share your voice because you're afraid of hurting someone else or making waves.

It might feel daunting to think about putting forth consistent effort to connect and communicate, so you do what you can to escape from your own head until the urge to be a bigger, better version of you fades away again.

Here's the thing though...

You CAN learn to prepare and advocate for yourself to get out of overwhelm - consistently and gracefully.

Trust me, I used to short-circuit my brain and nervous system all the time with too much, well, everything.

Too much input from podcasts, books, classes, TV, conversations, noise, and busy visuals (amongst other input!).

And I've learned some simple ways to be in the world in a way that works for me, nourishes my desires AND nervous system, and connects me to my deeper truth and to others.

Which is why I'm sharing my secrets to being in the world without getting overwhelmed in this week's episode of The Highly Sensitive Club.

Check out this week's episode to learn:

  • The simple traffic light method to monitor your stimulation levels.

  • 4 ways your highly sensitive threat response keeps you reacting to the world like a pinball bouncing from one situation to the next.

  • the simple 3-step process to accept your high sensitivity and be in a predominantly non-highly sensitive world in a way that works for you, not against you.

Freeing yourself from emotional overwhelm and learning to own your highly sensitive experience is how to actually create the life of your dreams.

This is a skill and a practice you can learn and get better at.

Having high sensitivity doesn't mean you're doomed to a life of looking at the world from the outside and wishing it were more friendly to you.

It can be when you meet it halfway, your way.

Big, warm vibes your way -

Steph
